Life Always Finds A Way

- HOPLA Gallery, New York

HOPLA is an artistic collaboration founded by Bilal Amjad (New Jersey, USA) and Max E. Barnes Herrlander (Malmö, Sweden). Working across visual art, design, film, and fashion, the duo approach HOPLA as a flexible framework rather than a fixed institution, one that allows projects to move fluidly between exhibition-making, material production, and cultural experimentation.

Shaped by backgrounds in Film, interior design, and Sales, and informed by experience navigating both independent and commercial art contexts, Amjad and Herrlander use HOPLA to examine how labor, taste, and cultural memory are embedded in everyday objects and environments. Their collaborative practice often operates outside traditional gallery structures, favoring site-specific presentations and hybrid formats that blur distinctions between art, design, and lived experience.
